Augen Colour Ereader
Augen Makes Good eReader For Economy Price

The Augen colour ereader is a basic featured ereader but is also a hand-held multimedia unit. It's a great buy for under $100, and if you're looking for a fairly simple, basic eReader you'll probably love it. The unit comes with 2 GB of internal memory, AC charger, USB cable and 150 free eBooks. It also comes with a nice leather protective cover and it can play music.

Coming with a 7 inch color screen with a pixel resolution of 480 x 800, it's quite a bit narrower than other eReader's. It isn't a touchscreen though, having instead a 'qwerty' keyboard similar to some cell phones. This may be why the screen and color look better than some of the other eReaders on the market.

The screen isn't glossy and it doesn't have the reflection problems that some of its competitors have. For those who prefer sharper, crisper text, this is the eReader to get. It's LCD screen uses darker fonts, and the backlight brightness can be changed for differing light conditions. Outdoors it's fairly easy to read the text, much better than most.

One of the features that set "The Book" apart from others is its capability of reading aloud through a text-to-speech function. It has a speaker on the back but since the case covers it, the volume isn't very loud even when set on maximum. It does however, have a headphone jack and is great for use this way. The headphone input jack is the small 2.5mm variety, so you may need an adapter if you have regular size headphones.

Wifi is built-in, so it has a browser, video player, and image view. The browser is basic, having only two functions: selecting a page as a 'favorite', and opening a URL. From there though you can browse the Internet and use the navigation wheel to click on hyper-links, and download ebooks. Most eReaders aren't very fast when it comes to web-browsing, and "The Book" is no exception.

"The Book" comes preloaded with approximately 150 ebooks which are mostly old classics. Since the SD card slot holds memory cards up to 32 GB you can download a lot more in PRC, FB2, HTML, DOC, PDF, MOBI, and Adobe EPub. Battery life isn't the greatest, holding on for about 7 hours at a time, but if re-charging after that much use isn't hard for the user, no problem.

Many adjustable features are really nice, but others are lacking. Some of the good ones are the ability to pick different font styles, set line spacing, alignment and margins, and pick from several different languages.

Some of the not so good issues are not having a dictionary like other eReaders, and not being able to add notes or highlight text. Hopefully you'll like the background color too, because you can't change it. The manufacturer is continuing to update the design, however.
